I'm still alive!

Life has been pretty busy for awhile ... or at least it's seemed that way. My head's been feeling very fuzzy lately and so it might just be me.

In an attempt to defeat the fuzziness, I am trying to do some major cleaning of my apartment, since I'm definitely someone who is affected by my environment. Also, maybe I'll finally be able to find whatever is attracting so many damn houseflies!

I also am participating in Camp NaNoWriMo, trying to finally finish the first draft of my steampunk novella that originally started as a Himitsu AU fic (old RPG I was involved in) but has become something different now (and something better, I think, since I've introduced a second narrator/storyline that is completely original). Anyway, I have a 10,000 word goal that I think should get me to the end. Now I just need to actually write it.

Elphie went in for her annual vet check-up today, to get her rabies vaccine (more for formality's sake than actually needed it, being an indoor cat living in a high rise building). I also suspected some oral health issues, because I wasn't as good about brushing her teeth as I meant to be and because she's had a bit of an excess drool issue for awhile - she'll shake her head and drops go flying.

Anyway, I was right about the issues. She has at least two cavaties and thus is going to need to have the teeth taken out. Which means surgery, which means $$$

The good news is, I was already saving up for vet expenses. That bad news being it was for Imriel's surgery (getting fixed and having his stomach tacked to avoid bloat/torsion).

This whole grown up thing really isn't what it's cracked out to be :(

Also, I have decided I am going to participate in NaNo and work on an entirely new book project because I'm feeling particularly inspired to do it and it's an easier concept to pull off then the WIP I have from NaNo a few years ago. I do hope I can get the first draft of the steampunk novella I'm working on finished by the end of October though, since I don't really want to take a month off from it.

I am not doing NaNo this year, because the last thing I need is another writing project*. However, in the NaNo spirit, I have decided to challenge myself to write 30,000 words this month (so 1,000 a day). It will be a combination of all the various projects I have going and hopefully will help me get back into the swing of things when it comes to writing, since I haven't done a lot of it for many months now.

I'm a bit behind already, of course, but still, a start is a start!

* Unfortunately, the majority of these words were, in fact, part of a new project I have ended up being unable to resist :/

I HAVE SURVIVED NANO!!!

I just barely made it past the 35K mark to save my Himitsu cast, final count is 35,106. So much better than any other year, even if I didn't win. I will probably post more musings about the whole experience later but today is a NaNo-free day.

Derek is hopefully coming to watch the Plan finally (rescheduling didn't work so well because our schedules this week really didn't mesh well but hopefully it will work out today). I also need to do grocery shopping, cleaning, and I think since it is December now that I shall put up my Christmas decorations!

Also, Marian, sorry for not replying to the comment, I was in the middle of frantic writing sprints, but I have not fixed the bike tire yet but I need to do that today so I'm going to go get those lever things and hopefully manage it on my own because I need it tomorrow morning since I'm out of TTC passes and money to buy TTC passes.

Little to-do list to keep me on track:

- groceries
- cleaning (including but not limited to dishes)

- decorating
- make pizza dough for dinner
- fix bike

- job search
- NO WRITING DEAR GOD NO WRITING

Life update, hurrah!

So, Shannon was going to come over to watch the Senators vs Leafs hockey game tonight but had to cancel because of school stuff, boo. However I will still watch the game (I have my Sens t-shirt on) and look for my parents and cousins in the crowd while I do so.

I may pass out earlier though because I was at work until midnight last night, got home, had five hours of sleep, and then got up and went back to work this morning. Always good times. I did get just under 43 hours this week though so that's nice. And I should have 43 next week because we have a meeting tomorrow night (to which I am totally wearing my sparkly purple shoes because they are awesome and I need to wear them out somewhere).

Current annoyance in life is the fact that my bike has another flat (Marian assures me that this number of flats is fairly typical and I do at least have a spare tube ready). So I've been TTCing it in (which will help with the wearing of crazy shoes tomorrow ... also the wind has been killer so I'm appreciated the subway as well as free MacDonald's coffee in the morning).

I'm off tomorrow except for the meeting from 8-11 so I'm going to do some major NaNo-ing. I did some outlining yesterday so I think I'm back on track to get some words in. I've pretty much given up on hitting 50K but I need to get to 35 for Himitsu or else I am very, very screwed.

So yeah ... I'm very happy November is almost over. This month has kicked me around a lot but I'm still here so I clearly have beaten the day month ^_^

I had a wonderful time this weekend with Margaret visiting. I unexpectedly got the whole weekend off (I booked Saturday but Sunday was an added bonus) so we had lots of time to hang out.

This week's work schedule is a bit unusual because I ended up trading a shift for tomorrow so I'm doing a 2-close cash shift which should be ... interesting. At least it means I have a good chunk of time now to catch up on NaNo since I am woefully behind. I need to write just under 2500 a day to get to 50,000 by the end of it but that is still definitely possible. I just need to focus more and stuff.

At very least, I need to hit 35,000 so I can not be screwed in Himitsu.

Okay, my day off. There are a few things I could do but I'm going to try and focus on just writing, writing, and more writing, because I am approximately 10K behind :'(

I've discovered a bit of a problem with watching TV on DVD/the computer while writing, in that there are no commercial breaks for me to just focus on writing. This is problematic. I thought Angel would be okay since I've seen most, if not all, of the episodes before but well, it still was bad. So I'm definitely going to have times when I just have music and that's it but I don't think I can do that the whole day.

Also, randomly, I've been in a mood for the X-Files so I watched the pilot last night. And discovered that, while when I was younger I didn't ship Mulder/Scully, I'm pretty sure I do now. Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny do have some mad chemistry, even from the start.

I've been watching my Angel season one DVDs today as I work on my NaNo (trying to get to 10K words by the end of the day ... so far I'm making progress but not fast enough!). I was looking into Doyle and why he was killed off and I have to say I'm not 100% sure I agree with the reasoning (they thought he was too similar to Angel). Granted, I can see that Wesley did balance things out a bit more but I really loved Doyle.

I'm also very sad to find out that the actor who played him died of a heroin overdose in 2002.

Anyway, back to writing. I'm almost at Thora's first POV scene which I'm very excited for. Of my two leads, she's definitely the one who I feel most connected to, even though James has been the main up until now.

Definitely enjoying this day off and I don't work again until 6PM tomorrow, because we have an overnight visual change which will very likely end up being a REAL overnight. Won't that be fun.

I also think Monday I will send an email inquiry about the job, since I never did hear anything yesterday and was told end of the week. Preparing for the worst now.
