Tonight has been devoted to costuming. I have gotten the sleeves off the dress I bought and now both of them as pieces of fabric. I'm having a bit of trouble with the eyelets though. [livejournal.com profile] neekabe, you used some on the MegaTokyo costume (Miho?) right? Any advice on how to get the damn things to go on? I saw a puncher thing at Wal-Mart that I'm tempted to go back and get, since the instructions given with the things aren't really working.

The big hand held punches are usually for the larger two sided gromets (heavy duty type) I'm assuming you just got apackage of the little ones, more eyelet sized and that only have one piece. (I've never used two part grommetts). A good tool for the eyelet sized ones is an awl, punch that through the fabric back to front, put the eyelet onto it, and pull it all back through. Awls also don't cut the fabric like the mini punch tools that are sold with the flattening tool (the one that flattens out the back of the eyelet so it stays in place)

Make sence y/n?

Yes, though it will make more once I discover what an awl is ^_^

Awl = spike on a stick ( (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scratch_awl) Actually spike with small handle, but spike on a stick sounds better ^_^). Just make sure you get one that gradually gets thicker, you need to make sure the awl gets larger than your eyelets.
