I have a new shiny!

http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120478493108

This means I am only missing one disc from the Sailor Moon S collection. I haven't found a copy on eBay that wasn't WAY more than I wanted to pay yet but I'll be keeping my eyes open.

Also, Andre! Since I saw you pop into the ANN forum discussion of OOP manga, have you ever seen volume 7 of Saikano available? If not, could you maybe keep an eye out for it for me? I really want to finish that series, without having to pay almost $100 for one volume @_@ (there was one place online I found advertising it without saying it was sold out...however I tried to order it and have had nothing happen so I think it was a lie).

Yay for shinies!

Yay!

I still can't believe I started getting into this d*mn series RIGHT as it went OOP -_-

That really is RUBBISH timing.

Almost as good as your sabbatical fun?

I can't believe Yining is going to be acting chair. Me having a supervisor that's actually around is like the doctors in Glaxcin actually getting a break. It just isn't meant to be. :p

Wow, nice grab! I'm waiting for a license rescue to replace my taped off tv ones [wish I'd nabbed the ones at Walmart when I nabbed the SuperS ones]....

Saikano Vol.7? I did see it at retail once, though that store closed awhile back. It's not on right stuff..... so I'm guessing it's OOP

Try a comic shop- here's the Diamond Code. If you're in Toronto, I know there's a few [I've heard The Beguiling is good, they might even have a copy]
OCT053368 SAIKANO VOL 7 GN (MR) $9.95
Diamond's stock sometimes hides surprises.

http://powells.com/ Never ordered from this site, but lots of used book sellers on it. It's one to watch- they have it listed new, but its out of stock, so I guess watch for a used one.

Yeah, for some reason vol 7 is unavailable/OOP while the rest of the series is quite easy to find. I've checked a few of the comic shops in Toronto and it's never been there :(

[identity profile] i-paint-the-sky.livejournal.com 2010-03-31 04:12 pm (UTC)(link)
And I checked all the places listed in the thread about finding OOP manga and none of them had it at (at least not for a reasonable price).

I wonder if VIZ's license expired ... looks like they still the anime...

I'd suggest giving a Diamond special order a try. A good comic shop will usually have multiple distributors to draw upon too- I know mine did wonders getting me most of Please Save My Earth.

Since the rest of it isn't OOP, I doubt it's a license issue. I really have no idea why one volume (and the final one at that) wouldn't be available.

Yeah, I might be able to do that.

[identity profile] jeepersjournal.livejournal.com 2010-03-31 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm guessing it's because they might not be reprinting the series, and the last few volumes generally have lower print runs than earlier in the series. They can still sell the remaining stock of the early volumes.
If they still have the license, I imagine they could do a new print run if demand merits.

I'm collecting Jojo's Bizarre Adventures, and when I realized that it was probably one of VIZ's poorer sellers [they have 3 volumes left to publish of the section they'd planned to do], nabbed as many as I could- vol.10 is OOP already, mostly because it had a low print run apparently, while the earlier vols had high print runs, so they're still available.

The way the market is right now, it seems like the really popular series will stay in print, but everythingelse is going to be a "get it before it's gone" sort of thing.

I suppose that makes sense. It's still frustrating though because it's such a great series and I want to know how it ends without either reading spoilers or just watching the anime.

[identity profile] jeepersjournal.livejournal.com 2010-03-31 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I imagine it could be that they're in the middle of reprinting it too- sometimes stuff [some older series get reprinted a lot- I got Wolf's Rain 1+2 during a sale at the comic shop thinking they were old stock, but they were actually reprints from 4 months ago]

http://www.aaaanime.com/item/Books/142150197X.html AAAAnime lists it, and since their a distributor, I'm guessing they might have some copies on hand, though you'd have to go through a retailer who orders from them to get it.

[identity profile] jeepersjournal.livejournal.com 2010-03-31 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
oops... sometimes stuff will go OOP but then suddenly get reprinted when companies realize there's demand for it. TP just did a number of reprints of volumes from last year that had been out of stock different places for awhile like Kannazuki no Miko and Aqua [Aqua=Awesome, it's the 2 volume series that preceded Aria- think girl gondolar drivers in Venice, but on Mars ^_^ With cats!]

[identity profile] i-paint-the-sky.livejournal.com 2010-04-01 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
It's been OOP for well over a year (that's how long I've been looking for it).

Okay, awesome, thanks so much.

ps---- Tokyopop posts their OOP list online, so it's a bit easier to keep track of what's gone OOP with them... this is the 2009 list, though they've done one every year since 2005 or so...

The "last volume low print run" thing happens with anime too- glad I got my Dunbine dvd's when I did as that show is infamous for that and never had a boxset.
