i_paint_the_skyI came up with the new idea for an on-going meme thing tonight and, since I was having trouble sleeping, I figured I would start today.
I'm going to post about my current top 20 favourite characters, hurrah! One character a day, starting from the bottom and working my way up.
Characters can be from books, tv, video games, comics, etc ... as long as it's a story, it is up for consideration. The only rule is there is a limit of one per series/franchise/etc ... (with one sortof exception that I will discuss when I get to it).
There will be spoilers, so check out the tags since I'll list the fandom there, so people can avoid anything they don't want spoiled, or anything they aren't particularly interested in.
Anyway, let's get this party started!
Azula from Avatar: The Last Airbender
When I first watched Avatar, I enjoyed it but wasn't super into it. All this changed however, when Azula was introduced. I've always enjoyed a good villain (though there are surprisingly few of them on this list) and she was an excellent one.
It was interesting to see how far the show went when it came Azula and the fact that she is definitely a psychopath. Yet it also did give her some fleeting human moments, especially at the end as she begins to completely lose it. Though my favourite still has to pretty much everything from the episode The Beach, particularly when she talks about Ursa.
I also absolutely love the dynamic between her and Zuko. Their relationship is just so tragic, really, which is why it's so great that their last battle is set to some pretty sad music, as opposed to the big battle music used for the other scenes that it's intercut with.
Also, she was a smart villain who did defeat the hero, even if he did get better afterwards. And I also appreciate villains who have plans to are clever. You could definitely make an argument that she's one of the smartest characters on the show, or at very least the most calculating of them all.
So yes, Azula is awesome. And I look forward to getting a costume done so I can cosplay as her and TERRORIZE THE WORLD!!!
