Quick post to say I'm still alive!

Life has been busy, with spring here finally. I've been enjoying going out to the Pit with Imriel, sometimes twice a day because the weather has been that nice.

I do have some news of a personal nature, as I've been on enough dates with a new guy to consider myself "in a relationship." This time is a bit weird though, because my mother is on Facebook now and thus is all asking questions about him. For here, I'll just say his name is Josh and he's pretty cool. We have a good time hanging out and, assuming things go well, I will no doubt be mentioning him here in the future.

Not much else going on. I'm not going to finish work on the novella in time for Camp NaNoWriMo, because I'm too good at distracting myself. But I've given myself a deadline of Victoria Day (May 18th, which is a stat holiday here, for those who aren't in Canada). I have extra motivation to get it done soon, because I think I want to try and get the self-publishing thing going in time to maybe have copies to bring to NerdCon:Stories, assuming I go ... and I'm pretty sure I'm going to go.

I also finally finished my second playthrough of the Mass Effect trilogy. I went with the Synthesis ending this time, which I found depressing since it's the first time my Shepard has been completely gone, since my first Shep went for Control and is thus basically a Reaper now, which is sort of badass.

Next ME playthrough will be a Renegade male!Shep who is super pro-human and a bit of a bigot about everything else. Should be fun!

Also, alas, the Sens were eliminated but it was an awesome go of it. I will be keeping the icon up for a few more days.

I'm still alive!

Life has been pretty busy for awhile ... or at least it's seemed that way. My head's been feeling very fuzzy lately and so it might just be me.

In an attempt to defeat the fuzziness, I am trying to do some major cleaning of my apartment, since I'm definitely someone who is affected by my environment. Also, maybe I'll finally be able to find whatever is attracting so many damn houseflies!

I also am participating in Camp NaNoWriMo, trying to finally finish the first draft of my steampunk novella that originally started as a Himitsu AU fic (old RPG I was involved in) but has become something different now (and something better, I think, since I've introduced a second narrator/storyline that is completely original). Anyway, I have a 10,000 word goal that I think should get me to the end. Now I just need to actually write it.

After finishing up work last night, I got a migraine, yay. Who doesn't love spending 12 hours in bed? It's mostly gone but not completely, so I decided to just take the day off work to make sure it doesn't come back.

I've been making progress on my kinkmeme fills, which has been nice. The Blood of Dragons fills should be finished soon, which is exciting because I am looking forward to putting them together into one fic and seeing how much extra work needs to be done. I already realized I need to set up that it's happening alongside Adamant more, so I have a few notes about changes to make. And the two new fills finally have a start posted to them, so the prompter doesn't think I've forgotten about them.

I also have been working on The Right of Annulment a lot. Mainly writing the epilogue, because apparently this is how I roll some days when it comes to writing multi-parts. Meanwhile, chapter 1 is still not quite complete. I haven't decided if I will wait till I have the whole thing written before posting it, or if I will post as things are completed.

I also really need to work on some of my older stuff too, especially Varric's Last Tale since it really is almost all done ... except for a major portion of the next chapter to be posted.

I might try to do some of that this afternoon, since I feel like avoiding being in front of a computer for too long right now is probably a good plan.

Bah. I just got a new plot bunny that really interests me. I am going to blame [profile] erunamiryene for this, because I got the idea while reading the latest chapter of "A Mage & a (Former) Templar Walk Into an Inquisition ...", even if it really doesn't have a whole lot to do with what's going on in said chapter, beyond Hawke being there.

I definitely am not really going to do much with this one until I few things are finished. Beyond some outlining and a first sentence. Which I already have.

*sigh*

I was talking to [personal profile] tersa about all the stuff I am working on, fan fic related, and thought it might be good to make a master post of it. If only to make my insanity obvious for everyone, including myself, because OMG how do I keep doing this to myself???

MUST WRITE ALL THE THINGS! )

I've been re-reading the Imriel trilogy of Kushiel's Legacy and really found myself all in love with the series all over again. And, oddly enough for the first time, I actually was hit with the idea to write fan fic for it, in a piece that covers Sidonie's storyline while Imriel is in Alba during Kushiel's Justice.

I'm really enjoying it so far but it also suddenly made me realize that how I use paragraphs in my writing is probably influenced a lot by Carey's style. Mainly how I will have short, one sentence paragraphs if there is something I want to really emphasize.

It's kind of strange because this is the first time I've been really aware of this happening. I know I also have a tendency to string together complicated yet grammatically correct sentences which I think is inspired by Victorian literature but nothing else that I feel I can attribute to one person.

On the plus side, it is making my fic sound almost like Carey wrote it!

Elphie went in for her annual vet check-up today, to get her rabies vaccine (more for formality's sake than actually needed it, being an indoor cat living in a high rise building). I also suspected some oral health issues, because I wasn't as good about brushing her teeth as I meant to be and because she's had a bit of an excess drool issue for awhile - she'll shake her head and drops go flying.

Anyway, I was right about the issues. She has at least two cavaties and thus is going to need to have the teeth taken out. Which means surgery, which means $$$

The good news is, I was already saving up for vet expenses. That bad news being it was for Imriel's surgery (getting fixed and having his stomach tacked to avoid bloat/torsion).

This whole grown up thing really isn't what it's cracked out to be :(

Also, I have decided I am going to participate in NaNo and work on an entirely new book project because I'm feeling particularly inspired to do it and it's an easier concept to pull off then the WIP I have from NaNo a few years ago. I do hope I can get the first draft of the steampunk novella I'm working on finished by the end of October though, since I don't really want to take a month off from it.

I have posted three fics in the last two days, hurrah!

The first was the next chapter of Between the Sun and the Moon, my Vampire Diaries Caroline/Klaus AU, which I've had half written for ages. [personal profile] bleodswean, I just sort of felt like posting it quickly, hence why this one didn't get sent to you for beta-ing. I hope you like it though :)

I also finally finished up a Kimberly/Tommy fic, Complementary Colours, that I've been gradually working on for AGES. Basically a reunion fic where it isn't revealed that Kim was secretly pregnant or something other dumb thing to explain away the Dear John letter.

Finally, a short little Tenzin/Lin ficlet that I started a few weeks ago, called Under His Skin.

SO MUCH PRODUCTIVITY!!!

Hello Internet, it's been awhile. How have you been?

I just got back from an extended weekend at the cottage. Good times, though sadly Imriel has decided that swimming is lame. He does like wadding in the water though, so at least there is that.

I'm trying to get myself back into writing too, which the cottage helped with a lot - a story I've been working on for years finally has a complete draft, albeit one that is in bad need of editing. And I almost have a new one-shot fan fic for Orphan Black that I really like and will be posting soon. Then I want to try and get focus back on my poor multi-parters, since they have been neglected. And in August, I go back to the cottage again and I'll be staying two extra days on my own to have a little writing retreat.

Some interesting stuff going on in life lately. I had a physical the other day and my doctor saw enough signs of potential diabetes to get bloodwork done, which showed elevated liver function. So now I get to schedule an ultrasound and see where we go from there, good times.

Not too much else going on, work is keeping me busy plus I have ringette on Monday nights and puppy class on Thursday nights.

Okay, life update time since we haven't had one of those for awhile.

- Job is going well. I can honestly say I pretty much love it, even if there are frustrating things that happen frequently (for example, a new website for documentation being launched without notice over the Christmas holidays that is only now getting close to being functional). Especially exciting work news is a new "white paper" that I am going to write, to be published on Valentine's Day. Not going to say anymore than that for now but, assuming it turns out well, I will likely put a link around.

- I've been busy with ringette lately. We had a tournament in the weekend (2 losses and 1 win, but the win came against one of the best teams in the league, whom we've never beaten!) and another game tonight (4-2 loss). I've really loved being the regular goalie this year instead of the back-up. I'm actually pretty concerned about the potential situation if last year's goalie wants to come back (she's pregnant, which is why she missed this year) since I know without a doubt that I do not want to be a skater again. I'm just not as good out there and, as a result, I don't have nearly as much fun. But I really don't want to have to switch teams (though if it comes to that, I'm hoping I could play on the same team as my aunt, though it's in a lower division which could be a problem, since they might not want me to move).

- I haven't been writing much lately, but I'm hoping to change that soon. I did get re-energized for Between the Sun & the Moon though, since Caroline and Klaus actually appeared on-screen together again. And inspired another Vampire Diaries fic, which has Klaus first person POV, which is interesting. I'm definitely feeling his voice stronger these days than I have in the past.

- I got my Wii connected properly to my TV, so I've been doing some WiiFit again. I ended up erasing all my old data and just starting fresh, since I did put back on a lot of the weight I'd lost, unfortunately (though I am still several sizes smaller than I was when I started, which is something). My main goal now is to be in the 100s by my 30th birthday, which should definitely be doable.

- I've been doing a fair amount of reading, which is good since I set myself an ambitious goal on Goodreads. Mainly reading two series, The Parasol Protectorate and The Heroes of Olympus (sequel series to the Percy Jackson books), and enjoying both. Heroes is particularly fun since I can talk with my cousin about them and fangirl things. It really is awesome having shared fandom interests with her.

- At work, I've been taking a Computer Networking class from Coursera. I also have signed up for a few other classes, one of which started this week (Introduction to Philosophy). It's really exciting to be learning new things and I love that these are classes run by university professors and offered for free!

And that's about it. Wow, just reading all that is making me tired =P

So, I got a bit distracted from this by life and such. So let's just finish up the categories I wanted to talk about with one last post.

Favourite life moment )

Favourite thing I wrote )

Favourite character )

And that's it! 2013 was a very good year for me and I'm hoping 2014 will be even better. And it will be, if my tarot cards are any indicition (I did a reading for myself and it was the most postive reading I have ever seen ... including having The Sun turn up in my future, yay!).
i_paint_the_sky: (Dragon Age // Anders)

Today was pretty much a reverse of yesterday, I didn't touch Sun & Moon and worked exclusively on The Mistress. I think I can get both chapters done with another night's worth of writing, though I won't have a chance to do that until Wednesday because I'm going to my parents' for dinner tomorrow, since I have choir practice and a ringette game in Carp afterwards.

Still not sure how/if I'm going to make up for the fact that I'm off-track by about 10,000 words.
i_paint_the_sky: (Default)
Ever since I finished my one-shot fic, Do You Know What it Means to Miss New Orleans?, I haven't been doing much writing. I got back into it tonight and managed to get my daily 1,000 words in but at this point, that is not going to be enough to cut it.

Oh well. I shall keep at it and who knows, maybe the writing gods will smile on me and suddenly things will get flowing again.

i_paint_the_sky: (The Vampire Diaries // Katherine)

So, after a strong start, I am now 2,000 words behind :( These last couple days I have just been in an odd mood and didn't want to write, not even to finish up my one-shot. But then I woke up an hour ago and didn't really feel like going back to sleep, so I got another 100 words written for that one to deal with some new canon and polish it up a bit more.

Hopefully tonight I can get more into the swing of things and make up for some lost ground. Thank god I'm not trying to do the full 50,000 for NaNo.
i_paint_the_sky: (Default)

AAARG! I thought I was going to be at 4,000! Oh well, pretty damn well near close enough, thanks to the first draft of my fic getting done and sent off to Andrea. It still could use a bit more polish but I am still really fond of it.

Also, I found another video to add as an honourable mention to my list of favourite vids, while binging on all things Caroline/Klaus today (including continuing my re-watch of season 4, courtesy of Netflicks). I just love how it puts scenes together to show connections between my two favourite pairings!

i_paint_the_sky: (Lizzie Bennet Diaries // Jane)
I have an online training course to do for work the next two days, which had the added advantage of meaning I don't need to leave home, yay! I am definitely going to enjoy that, as long as I make sure I don't get distracted, which is my number one reason for not working from home normally, even though I definitely could.

Also awesome is the fact that I have been totally into writing this new fic of mine, a one-shot where Caroline goes to New Orleans*, and it has been so great because it's been a long time since the only thing I wanted to do was write. Also fun was the fact that my cousin is into Vampire Diaries and not only wanted to read what I had written so far at family dinner last night, she also helped me write what is so far my favourite little exchange of the whole thing. Yay for fangirl cousins!

So here's an updated word tracker:

Still behind where I should be but I'm at least holding pretty steady so I think a good day of writing could help me catch up. And help me catch up with various other projects, once this one-shot is done (The Mistress, this means you!).

* Of course, it is also very exciting to have official news about the first canon crossover ... which I'll put under the cut for those who don't want the casting spoiler (though if you saw last week's TVD episode, you probably have a good guess).

i_paint_the_sky: (Default)
I am not doing NaNo this year, because the last thing I need is another writing project*. However, in the NaNo spirit, I have decided to challenge myself to write 30,000 words this month (so 1,000 a day). It will be a combination of all the various projects I have going and hopefully will help me get back into the swing of things when it comes to writing, since I haven't done a lot of it for many months now.

I'm a bit behind already, of course, but still, a start is a start!

* Unfortunately, the majority of these words were, in fact, part of a new project I have ended up being unable to resist :/

QotD!

Me: Guess what book I just bought in bloody mass market paperback!
[personal profile] yubsie: A Dance with Delayed Release Dates?
Me: Yep!

So yeah, ASoIaF collection finally complete. Until the next one comes out. In about ten years.

Also, [personal profile] bleodswean, I have the first draft of Sun & Moon's next chapter written but I need to give it one last once-over before sending it to you, since it's a bit uneven at the moment, having been started many moons ago. But I should have the time/energy to do that tomorrow.

Finally, I'm going to do this meme even though my recs will be very Klaus/Caroline-centric because that's what I read. There is some other stuff in there though, so even if that doesn't float your boat, check it out!

There will sadly be no May Fandom newsletter since I didn't get anything posted during the month, since I'm still waiting for betas to come back to me for the WIP chapters (damn you, spam filters!).

I've been signing up for a bunch of really neat challenges lately, which could backfire terribly but I'm hoping it means that the June newsletter is just filled to the brim with stuff. And I have a fanfic idea for a meme to do once I've finished the 30 days of The Vampire Diaries.
i_paint_the_sky: (Default)
So, there won't be an April fandom newsletter because I didn't post anything new all month :(

It was not a good writing month for me, I just haven't felt much drive to work on anything. And the stuff that I have been working on has been fighting me *glares at the next chapter of Between the Sun and the Moon*

No meme either, hockey game that the Sens managed to win somehow distracted me too much. Work continues to go well though!

Also I cannot find my cellphone. I haven't seen it since Friday. Boo.
