Day 23 – Something you love about TVD

Officially approved for my apartment, hurrah! I sign the lease on Thursday and get a chance to look at it again (the advantages to moving into an apartment that is current unoccupied).

Bought some lighting stuff today and looked at what I think is going to end up being my new couch. Also I walked a lot, 8010 steps for the day!



OMG there is so much that I love but I'll go with the thing I love which I think TVD does better than any other show I have ever seen (and that includes BSG): the twists.

There are so many twists and turns in this show and the best thing about them is that even though I at least rarely see them coming, they almost always work (the jury is still out about how season four ended but I'm willing to give the writers the benefit of the doubt, especially because it does actually work pretty well with the worldbuilding and themes).

I think it really comes down to the fact that the biggest twists have been planned for at least the entire season, if not the entire series (Elena becoming a vampire was always going to happen, though admittedly that is actually not that surprising, it was just executed perfectly). Which means there can be little things done to lay the groundwork for the twist for a long period of time (to go back to Elena's death as the example, this would be how Meredith using vampire blood to heal people was established really early in the season, to be used to its greatest effect at the end).

It really is the thing I love most about this show, that it can surprise me while still making sense.
