I am not doing NaNo this year, because the last thing I need is another writing project*. However, in the NaNo spirit, I have decided to challenge myself to write 30,000 words this month (so 1,000 a day). It will be a combination of all the various projects I have going and hopefully will help me get back into the swing of things when it comes to writing, since I haven't done a lot of it for many months now.

I'm a bit behind already, of course, but still, a start is a start!

I've finally gotten back into Meetup (a website where you can make a group and plan meetings and stuff) and it is looking to be very fun. Ottawa Geek Social Club has their weekly game nights on Monday and I got to play some new games I'd never heard of. Most fun was Shadow Hunters, which is in a way like a simplier version of the BSG boardgame, with characters on different sides but you don't know who is who. I don't know if I'll make it every week but I will try to get out there more often than not, at very least.

I also joined a writing group though they don't have a good meetup time for me planned as of yet.

So, today I finally finished watching the first season of Buffy the Vampire Slayer today. I watched some of the seasons when they first aired but I didn't start watching until season 4, so my viewing of earlier episodes is a bit spotty (though I've seen the one with the cheerleading witch mother about ten bajillion times ... it was always the one I caught in re-runs).

Anyway, my thoughts: first season is sort of pretty awkward at times. It reminds me a lot of the first season of TNG, actually. I think the last two episodes had the show finally beginning to hit its stride but I have a feeling it won't really get going until there's a less ridiculous villain ... but I know Dru and Spike arrive on the scene pretty fast, so my hopes are high for season 2 (I have it and season 3 on DVD).

So yeah, basically it was enjoyable but, even though I haven't seen them all, I'm going to go out on a limb and say that it's probably the weakest season.

Speaking of vampires, time for more of the 30 Days of The Vampire Diaries (and since we're talking about them both, I'm going to go out on another limb and say that I enjoy TVD more than Buffy, though Buffy is handicapped by the monster-of-the-week formula, aka my least favourite form of sequential storytelling.)

1. Work went very well today, I'm feeling pretty confident that I'm making as good an impression and as valuable a contribution as I can.
