The Pretear Dub Review
Jan. 16th, 2005 09:12 pmOk, well, in the middle of the hardcore G&G practice day, Margaret and I finally got a chance to watch the Pretear dub. Thoughts in general are that it was very well acted, most of the voices were good and the script was fairly accurate (and in some cases, possibly better).
BUT OH MY GOD THE PROUNUNCIATIONS WERE SCREWY!
The worst has be be "Himeno", which went from being "Hi-meh-no" to "Hi-me-no" (the e was made long >.<). It's so horrible to hear the main character's name, which is said the most, completely mangled.
Hayate and Sasame have the emPHAsis on the wrong sylLABle. And Hajime became "Hajima".
And finally, horror of horrors, Yayoi is just destroyed. The "oi" is ONE sound together, not an "o" and an "i". It's not supposed to be "Ya-yo-i"
I feel bad for the dub actors, who did very good jobs, to have it ruined by using the wrong proununciations.
Under the cut is a character by character review. Warning, there are spoilers.
