Nov. 20th, 2006 04:45 pmI found out that one of my bandmates from high school was killed last Wednesday. He was hit by an OC Transpo bus, I'm not sure exactly how it happened, Mom said she'll send me the article from the paper about it. I think he is the first classmate of mine to die, at least as far as I know. We were in band together for 3 years, he was in the lower grade. Pretty cool guy, though I didn't know him too too well...he was the bass guitar player.
He is the first though sadly most likely not the last, though hopefully there aren't too many. At least we managed to get through four years without a suicide (for awhile there, my high school was the area's Suicide High...I think there were 4 within 2-3 years).
MERCHANT, Jehangir "JJ" Wednesday November 15, 2006. JJ age 20. Loving son of Jamshed and Pheroza. Dear brother of Sohrab and Shireen. Family and friends may assemble Saturday November 18, 2006 in the Chapel of the Kelly Funeral Home 580 Eagleson Road, Kanata, for Funeral Service at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the West Carleton Secondary School - Music program in memory of Jehangir JJ Merchant.
Mom said she's going to make a donation for me.
Edit: Looking at The Ottawa Citizen's website, it sounds like JJ was biking on the road and accidently cut in front of the bus or something, too close for the driver to be able to stop. At least that's what one of the witnesses said.
