Back from the movie. Overall, I enjoyed it. It wasn't a great movie, but it was good and one I would watch again. Maybe even buy.
I think that people who enjoyed the book will like it. It still has the historical accuracy issues of the book, but that's because Philippa Gregory works more with historical possibilities than historical facts. And she chooses to go with the possibilities that work best for an exciting plot.
The movie is however significantly different plot-wise from the book. But I don't mind it because 1) the changes make sense and 2) the novel is only a secondary source about what happened.
In the end however, I feel that it is accurate to portraying the mood of the time, if not the particularities. It's like the Elizabeth movies...no, everything they show didn't actually happen, but the emotions ring true. Especially for Anne Boleyn in TOBG (though is really is telling that it is Anne, not Mary, who gets top billing).
( Spoilers )
I went into Tims after the movie, to see Jewels and Biatha. Apparently Jewels is not enjoying the nights where it is just her and Biatha and is going to ask Joyce not to schedule like that anymore. Not sure how that will go, but I would be happy to be back to 5 days a week, not 4 like it has been recently.
I also got free food. Free food is awesome (another perk of nightshift, since technically they should have charged me).
Finally, I ended up on the last subway going east and didn't realize it was the last until I was off it. Oops. Not that it would have been so bad, since I could have taken the Bloor bus. But it made me feel very manga-ish, since NANA and MARS both have scenes involving missing the last train.
ALSO, there is a movie coming out soon of Mama Mia! Id did not know this. AWESOME. The more musical movies, the better (still crossing my fingers that we'll get one for Wicked one of these days!)
