I am so stocked about the current Japanese anime season. As mentioned earlier, I'm checking out Vampire Knight and loving it. I also finally got to watch Code Geass R2 which is...really weird so far. Like, I have no clue what is going on @_@ But I think that's the desired effect at this point, so let's go with it. I don't quite see the point of not picking up right where it left off though, the year gap just seems awkward. But yeah, one episode in it is hard to tell.

In better sequel news, xxxHolic Kei jumped right into the action and into one of the best story arcs of the series. It is really different watching it after reading the manga, rather than the other way around which is what happened with the first season for me. The art is still ridiculously bad at points, but the story is what matters most and that is dead on. I love xxxHolic so very much.

I'm still waiting for the sub of S.A. to come out, because it's a manga that has interested me in the past though I haven't read it.

I also have been checking out Macross Frontier, because of the hype. It is okay, so far...very high cost production so at least it will be pretty.

And I still need to finish watching Love*Com and Sailor Moon R. So much anime, so little time!

(Oh, and I have the last disc of Roswell season one that I want to finish soon as well).

Edit: And to make it even better, my favourite anime blog reviewer is covering Vampire Knight, Code Geass, and S.A.! And maybe xxxHolic too, since he followed the first season and has looked at the first episode of Kei, even if it's not listed in the current series.

I'd recommend checking out Macross Plus sometime, probably the best of the Macross spinoffs [though I have a special spot for Macross II]. The Macross Plus movie version's pretty good, though sub only since it was released years after the dub of the OVA version, which was dubbed while it was coming out in Japan. Yoko Kanno's first big hit :)

The original Macross has some very special animation in some episodes [there's one where they get captured by the enemy, and however much restoration work Animeigo did, just can't cover how horrible that animation is 0_o], gorgeous stuff in others [it had a low budget apparently], but is a great story [The Robotech version sticks to it just fine, and I think is airing on Space FYI. It's more or less just a dub of Macross, with a couple name changes, and bad Minmei singing. Though all Minmei singing is just a *tiny bit* bad]

I'm kind of hoping YTV picks up Code Geass. Bandai apparently delayed the release of season 1 so they could release it as one 52 episode series.... if YTV follow's CN, it should debut this fall [though they haven't announced anything yet]

As for xxxHolic, I've seen the dvd's of season 1 out, but I dunno- the manga's art is so pretty, I'm not sure I'd want to watch it on a TV budget 0_o Which is wierd, as normally I don't mind horrible animation at all. I think the movie version spoiled me [it managed things okay :) Have you seen it? Yoko dub voice is great, a step above the rest of the cast]

I haven't seen the xxxHolic movie, no. But yeah, the art really doesn't translate well from manga to anime. But the worse thing they do in season one is take all the stories and put them completely out of order (IIRC, they even switch around the Valentine's and White day episodes, which actually doesn't make any sense!). This means that the character development is a bit wonky at times. It's very weird.

I'd recommend checking it out if you get a chance- HMV has it for pretty cheap at the moment, about 15 bucks [w/ the Tsubasa movie in a 2disc set], and their promotions are usually Canada-wide. Or just wait till another time- it's pretty much a sidestory, just a really well animated one, and unlike the Tsubasa movie, is actually movie-length :)

I wonder if the episode order on the dvd's is different? The wonkiness could be due to production order. Though they might of just left it as is....

As far as I know, the order has not been changed back to how it's meant to be and even if it was I don't think it would work, since I'm sure they don't reference to correct order so the character development is just simply not there.

ps--- I was really wierded out by the Tsubasa TV dub, which left out the Valentine's day reference, though it was still there in the sub.....I guess Funi wasn't sure to include all the crossovers? Or does the xxxHolic TV series include Tsubasa references?

The movie is a like a total Yoko-fest after watching her pop up at random in Tsubasa.

xxxHolic TV removes almost every crossover element, which may make the second season a bit trickier now that the plot is getting more connected with Tsubusa *shakes fist at that*. The only crossover I can remember off-hand is that Maru and Moro to use Fai's staff when beating carpets at one point.
