Despite claims that sleep is for the weak...I may have been asleep for the last few hours. I didn't think it had been that long, until I checked the clock.

Shannon should be here in a bit. I'm going to guess 4-ish. That seems reasonable, given how far she is and the fact that she hasn't left yet and won't for a bit. Maybe 5 since she's usually late.

I watched some of the Gunslinger Girl dub, it actually is quite well done. Too bad Funimation makes so many changes to the script that I'll never actually watch the dub XD And worse of all, they have dubtitles that come on if you set up the subtitles and dub to play, but using a subtitles button on the remote you can change that.

Ahh Gunslinger Girl, I don't think I've watched the entire show, but have you seen the manga? much longer than the show and you get this excellent new character called Pinocchio. Who I have my suspicions might be like the girls although older....hmm

Yeah, I've read up to vol 5 of the manga, it's really good. Though overall I think I prefer the anime because I like it's pacing better, even though the new one isn't half as pretty as the first season.

Yeah, it just started airing in Japan in January. There's a different studio doing this one. Pinocchio is one of the main characters/storylines so far, we don't know how far they'll go (we think they won't have Petrushka in it, but who knows).

Me too, he is awesome. And he also means focus on Triela which is my favourite girl, which is nice (she is so much cooler than Henrietta).

What sort of changes did they make?

It's nothing too dramatic, but I know there are some scenes where the entire meaning gets changed. I have to admit, I wasn't really watching as much as listening to it, so I don't know the specifics, but even from what I did watch you could see that there was deviation from what the subs said.

Funimation's wierd policy of having 2 subtracks has been dumped on their current releases it seems... I think the idea was to have an accurate sub track, and a seperate dubtitled track for the hard of hearing. A good idea, but one that confused a lot of anime fans.

I think it would be a better idea to have the dub script actually be close enough to the sub script that one subtitle track is plenty.

That's all dependent on lip sync's/how natural it sounds in english, though CPM used to do that all the time [ie- when creating a dub for a show they'd released first on subbed VHS, just use the sub script with very few changes for lipsync as possible to save production time]. Though that lead a lot of fans to confuse their DVD releases as being dubtitled since the dub and sub track were so close.... [I think the Final Fantasy 7 movie had the same issue]

I figure it's best to appreciate things on a case by case basis. There's lots of shows that both have fairly strict dubs and subs, but there's some where a realllllly out of place dub works great. I really love the parody dub ADV gave Ghost Stories. And Angel Cop works better with more swearing and less anti-semitism [trashy early 90's dubs are fun]. It all depends on the show though [I liked Cyber City Oedo's more subdued sub version a lot better then the dub, which is odd, as usually dubs work better on releases like that even with tons of swearing. I guess the japanese version was just that good].

Then there's the world of subonly releaes where you don't get a choice either way ^_^ [though I like them because it usually makes them cheaper]
