I'm going to be in New York anyway, so this might make little sense for you guys, but why not take the train from NYC like me?

Porter to NYC = cheapness, esp. if you wait for a sale
NYC to Atlanta via Amtrack is like $200 round trip (with student discount). It's an overnight train ... leave NYC 2pm, get to Atlanta next morning 8am. Similar thing going back. So, it will make your trip longer, but is hella cheaper ... assuming that $569 price you found for flights is before taxes. If it's after taxes, that might be a better deal.

That... actually isn't a half bad idea. I'm definitely a big fan of trains, they were my SALVATION at Christmas. Though I might have to fly back depending on what's going on at the beginning of the semester.
