No? Okay, fine, back to the favourite characters meme then.
So this one may be cheating a bit, considering I said one character per series and not only is this another DC character, but another Gotham-centric DC character. However, I am going to justifiy it because I haven't actually read a comic featuring both Renee and Dick in it. And because it's my list and my rules, so meh =P
Anyway, Dick is sort of a new character on the list, and sort of an old one. Obviously, I've known who he is for most of my life, since generally he is the only Robin non-comic book readers are that familiar with. But he didn't become one of my favourite characters until recently, in particular when I read the comics where he became Batman with Damien as Robin. And what an absolutely glorious partnership that was, since it reversed the usual Batman-and-Robin dynamic.
And even in the new DCU, with him back in his role as Nightwing, Dick is pretty damn awesome. He's funny and clever and a great leader. I love his aerobatic fighting style and his quick wit.
Plus, I find it pretty cool that he is one comic book character who is often drawn using the female gaze (and no, it is definitely not a coincedance that I picked the picture of him that I did).
While I always enjoyed him well enough as Robin, he really did take on a whole new life as a character in the comics and I just find his whole arc fascinating, even with the new, scrunched continuity. Definitely my favourite character in North American comics.
