Mages. Mages, mages, mages.

After talking with tersa about why Fenris' arguments, while completely understandable, don't really convince me, I have been thinking a lot about why Anders' do, when he is equally biased. But I feel like not only does it come from the fact that he is reacting to something in the same context that it exists (Kirkwall has a circle, whereas it typically does not have magisters) but I think the main difference is that it's not the first time the issue has come up.

We do see a few happy Circle mages but the main two that stick out, Wynne and Vivienne, both had freedoms that weren't necessarily granted to other mages. Most of them seem pretty much stuck in there, no matter the fact that they've never used blood magic or done anything worthy of being locked up. The whole system is just too "guilty until proven innocent" for me.

That said, I don't think the threat should be entirely ignored and I do feel like Vivienne made some good cases for keeping the Circle. But I think it needs to be completely revamped. Maybe make it more like a boarding school, with restrictions in place until a mage passes his/her Harrowing. After they have proven themselves capable of resisting temptation, then they can be granted more freedom to go about and be part of the community at large. To be able to marry and have children who aren't immediately handed over to the Chantry upon birth.

And I'm honestly not sure the Templars really have a place in this Chantry, except perhaps at the Harrowing. Certainly if the order were to continue, it would need its own changes made.
