i_paint_the_skySo, I went with the female Qunari, since that's the character I wanted to play initially but couldn't due to Cullen's race gating. It also led to probably the oddest party configuration: a Tal-Vashoth, a Qunari, a Circle mage, and an apostate, walking into a bar in Redcliffe to chat with Fiona (and oh my goodness, catty!Vivienne is hilarious).
Anyone who has read The Mistress probably won't be surprised by this. Obviously, given his story Cailan couldn't have been a permanent romance but he could have had a role similar to Dairren/Iona. My first though upon meeting him with my first Warden was that I'd like to romance him. Of course, I didn't realize he was married then, or that he was doomed.
At the very least, it would have canonized the fanon that Cailan was unfaithful, though Return to Ostagar had a bit of that as well.
I know a lot of people really wish Varric was a romance option. While I wouldn't be adverse to it, I never felt a burning need to romance him ... well, except that I've ended up shipping him with my headcanon version of Sereda Audecan, but that's another story (literally)!
